WNBF/INBF World Championships: Gwen wins first place!

New York, 10th November:

Gwen Carbone has won first place in Women's Bodybuilding (over 53.5kg class) at the 2007 WNBF/INBF World Championships! Meanwhile Ellena Tsatsos placed 2nd in Figure Short and 4th in Ms Fit Body Short, and Wendy placed 3rd in Ms Fit Body Tall.

The WNBF/INBF World Championships was a large comp, consisting of 240 athletes from 15 countries including Australia, the USA, Canada, UK and even Japan and China. There were as many as 12 competitors in some of the women's divisions. The INBF "Ms Fit Body" proved popular. "Ms Fit Body" in the US is the same as "Figure" in Australia. It was the first time "Ms Fit Body" had been held at the WNBF/INBF World Championships, and as a consequence even WNBF Pro competitors were allowed to compete in this division, but the MBS girls did well nevertheless!

WNBF Asia-Pacific Championships 2007:

Three of Michael's girls make it to the Overall, and Ellena wins a trip to New York

Team MBS was delighted to take out the Overall Figure title, as well as three 1st places, two 2nd places and two 3rd places at the inaugural WNBF Asia-Pacific Championships. It was a large contest, featuring over 110 athletes in excellent condition.

Ellena Tsatsos, Wendy La Roche and Linda Grech found themselves in the battle for the Overall Figure title, after winning the "Open Short", "Novice Tall" and "Masters" Figure divisions respectively. It was a hard fight between Ellena and another competitor from Victoria, with Ellena emerging victorious.

Meanwhile Wendy also took 3rd place in the "Open Tall Figure" division and Melody Carstairs won 2nd place in "Novice Tall Figure". In Sports Model Maria Nikolakopoulos placed 2nd and in Women's Bodybuilding Heavyweight Gwen Carbone took 3rd place. Every Team MBS athlete looked fantastic and did their team, the gym and their trainers proud.

Ellena was still in shock at the end of the night - part of her prize is a trip to New York to compete in the WNBF World Championships!

2 weekends, 3 comps, 6 first places, 2 Overall titles... but it's not over yet!

Two weekends, three comps, six first places... but Team MBS is not finished yet!

Ellena Tsatsos came 1st in "WFF Open Athletic Class 2" and took out the WFF Overall Figure title at the 2007 NABBA/WFF Australian Championships on 7 October. She showed off beautiful abs and an entertaining Bollywood-inspired routine. The win added to Ellena's perfect record: One week earlier at her first comp, the WNBF Victorian Championships, Ellena won "Novice Figure" and the Overall Figure title, and at the INBA Victorian Championships on 6 Oct she won "Open Figure".

Ellena's team mates also achieved success. The WNBF comp was small but run very smoothly and professionally. Gwen Carbone placed 3rd in "Open Figure", while Melody Carstairs placed 4th in "Novice Figure".

The following weekend at the INBA and NABBA/WFF comps, Team MBS came up against some tougher competition. At the INBA, Ellena Tsatsos won her class, while Maria Nikolakopoulos (Sports Model), Wendy La Roche (Novice Figure), and Linda Grech (Masters Figure) all placed 2nd in their respective classes and Ange Simpson (Intermediate Figure) placed 3rd.

It was up early the next morning and straight back to Camberwell for the NABBA/WFF Australian Championships. Wendy La Roche and Melody Carstairs were the only competitors in the "WFF Novice Athletic Class 1": Wendy beat Melody, but lost to Ellena in WFF Overall Figure title. Meanwhile Ange (WFF Novice Athletic Class 2) and Maria (WFF Glamour Model) placed 2nd and Linda (WFF Open Athletic Class 2) and Gwen Carbone (NABBA Masters) placed 3rd.

The WNBF, in its first year in Australia, stood true to its word at its Victorian show and drug tested every single competitor. It also awarded six lucky athletes, including almost every Team MBS girl, flights and accommodation to compete in the WNBF Asia-Pacific Championships in Sydney.

Team MBS’s performance at the 2007 WFF Universe

Universe 2007

Michael Tabban and five of his best athletes enjoyed a successful trip to the 2007 WFF Universe in June.

After about 24 long hours of flying (Low point: having to sit there eating your egg whites while the people on each side of you tuck into buttered rolls and Mini Magnums. High point: Singapore airport has a gym and hot showers!), the athletes arrived in Germany and found their way to the town of Gottingen. A week was spent getting over the jet lag, training at the very hospitable InForm Fitness & Wellnesspark, practicing posing and routines, and going on shopping sprees in great European clothes and shoes shops.

On comp day, the athletes found themselves on stage surrounded by athletes from Lithuania, Germany, Australia, the UK, Russia, and diverse other countries. Areti Anagnostellis, Katie Farrell and Melissa Morgan were allocated to the “Women’s Fitness Over 30” class. Areti not only won the class, but also repeated her success of 2005 and 2006 in taking out the “Women’s Fitness Overall” title. Katie placed 2nd just behind Areti, and Melissa placed 6th.

Kati O’Nagy, competing in her first Universe, was somewhat alarmed to be allocated to the difficult class of “Women’s Athletic Under 30”. However she posed with elegance and won!

Later in the night Katie Farrell & Stuart Roe put on yet another strong performance in the “Pairs Fitness” category, and placed 4th.

After the Universe, it was off to Amsterdam and Crete for a well-earned rest.
